Mississippi River Boat Cruises
Mississippi river boat cruises are popular for many reasons. First and foremost, they provide a relaxing getaway that takes place on one of the longest rivers in the world. The Mississippi River is actually the fifth longest river and spans all the way from Louisiana to Minnesota. One of the most popular types of cruises down the Mississippi are old-fashioned paddlewheel boat cruises. In the late 1800s, the river was full of these boats carrying passengers and goods from place to place. Today, these old-fashioned boats make for a delightful pleasure cruise. You get all the charm of yesteryear with plenty of modern conveniences.
One example of a paddlewheel style boat that offers pleasure cruises is the La Crosse Queen. This boat is a reproduction of the old-fashioned boats which used to travel the Mississippi. This boat even uses old fashioned stern wheel propulsion. There are a variety of different cruise packages available on the La Crosse Queen. One of them is called the Sightseeing Cruise. It takes approximately one and one half hours and takes you upstream for a guided tour. On such a cruise it is not uncommon to see majestic wildlife such as the eagle. Another cruise on the La Crosse Queen is the Captain's Champagne Brunch, which is a Sunday morning cruise with brunch and champagne included. There are also dinner cruises, moonlight cruises and extended tours available.
There are plenty of other boats on which you can cruise the Mississippi River. You will find that many of them are quite luxurious and include things like swimming pools, fitness facilities, restaurants, casinos, beauty salons and more. Some of these cruises even offer shore adventures where you can enjoy various ports of call. Some cruises even have a fun theme which is often historic in nature, like the Roaring 20s or the WWII period. On a river cruise you often get to learn the history and heritage of the region while having fun and relaxing.
You can find lots of different types of Mississippi river boat cruises simply by researching online for them. These days you can plan and book your trip right from your computer. Of course, if you prefer you can go through a travel agency when planning your cruise. Many travel agents offer special deals on river cruises down the mighty Mississippi. If you've never taken a river cruise before you may want to start with a half-day or full-day cruise. If you enjoy it, there are longer cruises available such as three and seven day cruises.
